Cleaning glass on Hunter Herald 8

Have been running my new log burner since October. I've tried cleaning the glass with soapy water with a scouring pad but it's not touching the build up on the glass. Any other tips to get the glass clear again?
Using a scouring pad will scratch the surface and permanently score the glass causing additional build up of material your trying to remove. If possible I would try to remove the glass and replace with new, otherwise only use a glass cleaner and cotton towel to clean the surface.

Pretty new to this stove malarky myself but wet newspaper dipped in the ash works for me , I give it a once over every morning and it isn't much of a job.

I do find that I only get a nasty dark build up if I shut it down too much/early but the worst of this will burn off if I crank her right up.

The ash and damp newspaper trick works well IF it's only wood ash - if you've burned smokeless in there as well the ash from that will scratch the glass.

I use a spray on stove glass cleaner from Calfire to tidy up customers stoves while I'm sweeping their chimneys - it's quite a strong alkali and takes your breath away if you breathe it in - but it's a lot more effective than the Hotspot aerosol spray cleaner which goes on like a thin white foam. Often with the Calfire stuff you can see the tar just sliding off the glass as you spray it on.

Cheers,

Andy
