Why do things break at the wrong time?

Do you mean the the groves that that the top roller goes up and down in when feeding brash? I always grease these at least weekly. I wish timberwolf would use oversize bearings, id happily pay extra

 

That's it. After greasing it as soon as you drop it back down all the grease goes to the bottom anyway. It's only a quick job to put the nipples on and makes it easier to grease so more likely to get done.

Well I've got the chipper all sorted now, I will not be hiring it out anymore, that way I will know its getting looked after.

£260 quid to sort it out and I did the work. The bearings were ok to remove but the woodruff key was a bugger to get out. In the end I took it to my local agriculturel workshop who just webbed a bit of flat bar on to the key and knocked it out.got it all put back together in a couple of hours.

ive just done the bearings on mine, plus the fans, both shafts, new anvills, new blades

I take it most of you change you TW bearings yourself? Iv never done one before but would like to try next time they go as it cost me £600 plus to have them done last time. Is it something thats really best left to the speacialists or do you reckon its worth me trying a DIY? I would consider myself reasonably competant mechanically.

If you are competent with mechanical things then go for it, you need some tools also, a bearing puller and torque wrench.

Who had been hiring it?

 

I'm not gonna name names mate as they might not have done it and also they wouldn't do it on purpose, I just think if I don't hire it out and something goes wrong it's my fault and that's that. In the past it has come back with the tracks full of mud, tool 2 hours to pressure wash and re grease, a couple of bits came back bent, it's not worth the hassle.
