I've just had to look into this as I've been questioned several times about validity when doing site work. My NPTC dates back to late 90's, but I've generally got by by pointing out that there aren't any expiry dates.

I emailed City and Guilds NPTC and they replied that CofC is still valid but they recommend a refresher. Looked slightly deeper into it and on AA website they state that all NPTC for chainsaw obtained prior to June 2010 will have 3 years before expiry, therefore taking us to end of May 2013 before refresher is required. ??

A friend who works for National Trust has to do refreshers for all his tickets every 3 yrs. But that is a NT policy, probably to do with insewerance/cover their own backs. I would imagine some other employers are similar.

(What did National Trust do with all the "The's" when they rebranded? Perhaps there is a warehouse full of them somewhere?)

Have not been in an NT gift shop. I'm not allowed cos I is not white enough, or middle class enough, or willing to pay stupid amounts of money for 'all butter' place mats or eco-friendly doormats................................(phew that feels better)

3 years of occasional users, 5 years for full time pro's. no need to redo your nptc tickets as they dont expire, but for cpd and hse do a lantra ITA update/refesher course cheaper shorter and equally as valid

So is this a recommendation or a legal requirement?
