Forgot to mention it does help if you put down a small acreage to a woodland grant scheme as it is very difficult for the council to argue that you are not in forestry if you are receiving payments from the Forestry Commission.

As long as you keep livestock on the ground I cant see them kicking up too much fuss but being that somebody has reported you they have to follow it up ,I would be interested ''if you dont mind'' to know the outcome of this as im basically in the same boat our land is agri but atm im not at the stage of polytunnels but would certainly like to be in the next year or so it would be interesting to know what they say or wether they ask you to apply for change of use etc ?good luck with it anyway and hope they back off and dont give you too much agro

hi all same here i just had a phone call from a moody planning enforcement officer saying she wants to come and see me i run 2 mobile mills from our yard and only run a couple of times a week at most but she had multiple complaints over noise ? i am in the middle of nowhere here lol looks like there's going to be a showdown and p45 s in the post v soon this country is done for there's no Great left in Britain just office jobs for the public sector and not the working man its just TAX!!!!

I believe if you have 15 acres of woodland planning is not required for a building. Not sure if that is still the case. Get planting!

Off topic here sorry, but I own a few acres [smallholding with barns and stables] I currently don't do anything with it. I was thinking of only using it recreationally camping on weekends, large family BBQ's etc, would this be ok in the eyes of the council?

 

Also does anyone know what a ''registered smallholding'' actually means? can a small holding be registered? nowhere in all my old paperwork deeds etc or info held on land registry does it mention ''registered smallholding''.

I can't help but wonder if this is more about the economy than your noise. If you think about it, with the downturn there's less planning work for these people - therefore less jobs in planning. Also with the cutbacks, councils will cut back more on departments with less work (e.g. Planning, Building Control) than ones with more work (e.g. Social Services).

 

Why you may have here is someone scared about her job and looking to justify her position. Just a thought. It might be you can work with her to the benefit of both - and you'll have a friend that may be useful in the future?

i think you can camp on your land for 28 days per year and you can register with defra and get a holding number.

You can learn alot about smallholdings and what you can and cannot do on the "Field to farm" forum. The website is about a route through planning that could end up with getting planning for a house on the land, but the forum covers many more scenarios that maybe helpful.

as far as im aware a 'pole barn' is classed as a temporary structure & doesnt need permission.. any roof is better than no roof!!!!!!

 

I think you are wrong there, if the poles are dug into the ground then it is not temporary and needs PP. Temporary is some thing like a shipping container, shed, caravan or mobile field shelter.
