I get loads of calls from guys looking for work....telling me that they have cs this and cs that...and qualified in this and that..annoys the hell out of me...there seems to be a new generation of super geek climbers!...that have a this dry knowledge ..but when it comes to thinning a big tree out and doing a scary removal in the pissing rain ..the just crack..and are broken easy!

I understand that Arboroculture is advancing in new technology and climbing methods etc are making things safer and and jobs more efficent...but You still need to have a thick skin..and be at least a little bit tough!

Just had to many guys call me up telling me they have done this and done that...then shaking like aleaf when the get 10 ft of the ground...PATHETIC!

Hey, us new guys have gotta start somewhere. Give us a break, huh? College is cosy and you're right, they don't teach you how to crown reduce or thin or whatever. They show you how to use a saw 'safely' and climbing technique. It's up to you experienced guys to show us how the jobs done. Surely you don't really expect anyone to come out of college and be fully confident at all aspects of the job? It takes a special teacher to instill confidence...

Nice of you to run such a charity for newbie climbers. The same climbers in a year will be hardened off one hopes. either stick with them or tell em to come back when they've got more realistic about the work. I guess everyone's got to start somewhere.

Indeed...

May I ask what your qualifications include?

You can't blame them for listing their qualifications to promote themselves.

But you can blame them for saying they can do this and do that when they plainly cannot.

Do you have a lack of choice of decent climbers where you are? If not, why not just ask for 3 years minimum experience for climbers or something?
