Hi there I do a fair bit of ivy removal on buildings Walls trees . I prefer taking it off when it's alive I work top down with a small crow bar and mallet for the stubborn bits . I like it live as find it comes off better in longer strips and is more supple .

All the best with it

I always severe at base and leave it for a while then comeback to remove .

I had a problem with my insurance regarding Ivy removal once . I was informed that I can remove Ivy up to gutter level on a property of any size but anything past gutter level my insurance said I would not be covered . Apparently this then becomes roofing ?

I second this ,just cut at the base and let it fall away in time or get a builder in to repoint.

we do a fair bit of ivy trimming / removal

we prefer it live, start at the top it'll pull itself off

tools are silkys, and wolf garten style hoes on short handles.

easy money.

once did a house where the stuff was all the way up one side, up the roof, all the way round the chimney.

pre-warned the client that the ivy was through the concrete roof tiles into the attic and there may be damage to the tiles when we had removed the stuff. no problems there.

got up on the roof cleared the chimney, put a strop round and anchored off that.

worked down the roof, got to the guttering and WHAM..... the whole lot pulled itself off in a one-er....

good times.

we'd quoted a full days work. got it done in two hours.... and we were half the price of the nearest quote
