Rope Wrench feedback

Having the Petzl Anthron and foot loop above the normal Rope Wrench, Lanyard over the shoulder system with the pantin made ascent alot smoother and faster. Easily as fast as any S.R.T system i've used previously for canopy access.

 

Once i reached the canopy it was just a simple case of unclipping the hand ascender/foot loop, storing it on my hip and unclipping the pantin from the line.

 

The best part is, is from there you are now free to work.

 

I found once in the canopy keeping your L.O.T.S held the rope wrench up as you moved towards the TIP meaning you only had to tend slack from beneath the VT as opposed to pulling yourself up, holding your weight on one arm and pulling slack from beneath the pulley in your traditional Ddrt Hitch Climber system. (You still had to hold your weight on one arm as you tended slack mind you, just on a branch or the stem.)

 

Really excited to see how single line tree climbing and working is going to evolve in the years to come and how long it will take the manufacturers and industry to get onboard with evolution!

 

Still kinda excited to try the spider jack to.. just fror arguments sake

the drop tests we did on the weekend showed that the wrench is really safe. The croll and hand ascender tore the rope on a 20cm drop, the RW took a 2m drop with no problems. The footlock prussic was welded to the rope on a 70cm drop. As Ian said, a doubled rope is still a single leg of line as opposed to a double rope system that has a seperate line for backup -ie rope access.

At the risk of sounding like a womans hygiene commercial, the sense of freedom you get on the way down is unparalleled being able to move 360 degrees around a clear spar is awesome and the only friction your dealing with is 7 inches above your bridge. Its going to completely reinvent Masters climbs if and when it gets accepted.

The rope wrench has been used by three masters challenge winners so far. Ohio 2011, wisconsin 2011, indiana 2011.

These were comps that allowed the wrench in spite of pressure to not allow SRT work positioning systems. All comps are independent and it is ultimattly up to the head tech of each chapter event to make a decision. The ITCC is another story and pressure must be made to allow SRT work positioning systems. Currently in the ITCC, you are allowed to ascwnd the tree using rope shredding ascenders on shredable rope.

I honestly think everything clicked into place today whilst dismantling a small goat willow. It just seemed easy to work with. Anyone else found this? I mean i didn't need to use an ascender or pantin as its only 20ft tall but moving around the multi stems seemed well, really easy, but felt easier than on my spiderjack. Its hard to explain but just wondering if any others of you have gone 'oh this works really well even on this small tree'.

Tuned in, thats the word that sums it up pretty well. But your right once you have that transition everything else seems well.....old and limited. I can see the limitations of DRT now whilst before i think i was wearing blinkers and narrow minded.

So i took my GoPro with me today and filmed this Birch removal. I decided to strip the whole crown out with my handsaw as it was just as easy then took the saw up to finish it off, hence all those horrible stubs. [ame]
