Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

So i had a quick play using the lockjack, seems to work ok but really relies on the wrench biting in. I haven't had a long/challenging limb walk as im seeing how it work so safety is always first. I think the tether needed to be shortened up for use with the lockjack tho.

I've got a short link on my rw,the small eye is attached to the wrench then the big eye I larks foot onto the top of the lj.

As for non rated, fair enough with a hitch, as the hitch would grab if the krab failed, but the lj would be a quick drop!

You wouldn't drop but you would find it über hard to move it in true SRT mode.

Just with the bottom attachment? I haven't tried the lockjack on it's own on a single rope (nor do I intend to) but I have had a play with it on the ground srt. It seemed to pull hard to one side,as the attachment points are offset to the rope.knowing it would grab in the event of a wrench failure is good to know though! Cheers

To add to what Drew said, once you have a bit of weight under you, with either a chest harness-rig, or the lanyard over the shoulder (or "LOTS" as I'll coin it right here and now ;) )

Remember, you are not bound by the friction-laws that rule DRT, so weaving redirects is easy, faster and more efficient.

I can pull hand over hand with my RW rig tied to me either LOTS or via a chest harness for jaunt of up to say 10 feet straight up, more, say 20 feet or so if I can put my feet on limbs or the tree :)

Ok, I understand what you're saying but I find it hard to believe that this is easier than ascending on DRT.

After all, on DRT the standing side of the rope is helping to pull me up while I pull down on the running side. I use a Pantin a lot by the way.

I dismantled a Maple today and had to be very systematic as I couldn't damage the shrubs underneath. I couldn't see a single time when ascending SRT would have been easier, yet I do understand the SRT concept and technique.

Am I missing something or is it just a case of pros and cons?
