Rope Wrench feedback

Right, bit of a scary moment on the RW today. It's something that has nearly happened before several times but I've never been quite sure what I've seen.

The first photo is of my setup, the second photo shows the tether snagged over the slic pin.

Today I climbed over a branch and when I sat down in my harness the tether hooked over the pin causing the RW to press down on the hitch knot.

This released the hitch and I went into free fall from 35ft! Fortunately I was in a very dense Yew tree and only fell about 3ft, getting snagged on a cluster of branches. 😱

However it was enough to make me twitch and my sphincter still feels tender. 😂

I am aware of my error in not checking/tending my hitch knot but I really want to make everyone aware of the potential for this happening.

I also should point out that I believe the RW design IS NOT at fault.

I think that this could be better avoided with:

1: a shorter tether?

2: a tether in sheath/tube?

3: using the other pin?

But it can definitely be avoided by being diligent with ones hitch knot.

So, it was a lesson in complacency for me today but please be careful chaps.

I'm really interested in your views on this and any similar experiences.
