In a clear Fell job we did there was a group of up rooted Trees. Some had fallen against one large one and continued growing.

First of all,"Driving" is not a technique you should use if safer methods are available, such as a Winch or a Machine are available to push out the Tangle.

However sometimes ,like this time, there was no Machine on site at this stage and I had to remove the Tangle to continue Falling the Trees.Working around the Tangle was not a safe option.

I cut up the Tree Holding the Tangle up after clearing two escape Routes.I faced this Tree up across the Lean and weight of the Trees resting against it.Then I cut up each Tree that was up rooted face cut across the lean.

Then I went back to a suitable large Tree and Felled it at right angles into the Tangle.Unfortunatly this Tree was leaning back and required Wedging.

Thanks for that, very informative. I know techniques like this aren't the first choice but they're very useful to know when they're the best available option.

Looks an excellent technique to have in the arsenal, and it seemed to have gone excactly as planned?

Bit of s shame I had to sit behind a still screen and listen to wedge-tapping for the first 3 minutes. but worth it still :thumbup1:

This is a very good demonstration of experience and knowledge to identify the risks involved to acknowledge that there are other methods to do the task but to use what's available safety we have these scenarios frequently on call outs. Pleasure to see ;)
