Road side work experiences

Done a couple of Jobs on a road now, you get the usual muppet trying to run a red light and then having to reverse back, or the odd car following you into the site even though you having beacons on. Anyone else got any roadside events they fancy sharing?

Saw a woman on a bike try to hop up a kerb and fail few months back. had cuts all over her face and legs, even had tarmac embedded in her teeth!

 

A few winters ago, grinding stumps roadside in the snow, an old woman came sideways on a moped through the cones. She began ranting at us as if she hadn't seen the signs, cones, three men in hi vis, van with flashing beacons or the 20mph limit. She ended the conversation by telling us to stop digging holes(!) and go out gritting and clear the roads:confused1:

Hahaha! When working near Oxford, one chap in his merc decided to filter past the traffic like a motorcycle, when he realised that there wasnt a long line of parked cars in a 50 limit, and that he was infact on the wrong side of the road he had to reverse all the way back, which gave us enough time to get everyone down from the mupes and trees in order to give him a round of appause when he came past, claiming "we havnt put any signs out".

Doing motorway work a few years back we where the van following the 7.5 iveco with full flashing beacons.

 

They put them on as you do to warn drivers that your turning into site access area and next minute this old montego follows them onto the hardshoulder??? as we stop a doddery old guy gets outs and tells us he thought we were pulling him over!!

 

It was only a short access area and the 7.5 tonner had to go up to the exit to let him out!! He then tried to re-join the motorway at 30mph:001_rolleyes:

was doing a reduction on a real big lime ,roadside slap bang in the middle of busy swansea. pavment under the tree was closed off cones and all correct sinage up etc ,and a woman with a pram barges through the bunting tape whitch wrapped around her buggy ,she then continued to walk under where i was cutting ,i did shout but she just mutterd some mild abuse and carried on regadless

There is always one! They go that way every day so can't possible deviate from their course regardless of what's happening. Seen people tear down tape, move or climb over barriers, sprint under a BIG load on the rigging!

 

Nearly had to tackle a cyclist earlier this week and then inform her she was headed the wrong way up a major road into the path of a bus!

Not road work but last winter we were doing tree work on a section of already opened trailway. Because of the size of the trees we were felling we had both vans fully articulated between the bank so nothing could get past. We had signs saying "Trailway closed. Please use/find alternative route" as well as tree felling signs and tape across the path. This lady on her horse decided to jump our L200 (Don't ask me how) and proceded to gallop through the work site. She was giving us abuse as she went through so on her return journey my boss stopped her and told her not to be so damn stupid and to read the signs. Her excuse was the horse needed a good gallop along the trailway with a couple of jumps thrown in. She phoned the head of the dept stating that we didn't have correct signage. We sent pictures to the head and she very quickly retracted her statement when we said we would report her for using a public right of way as a gallop run and criminal damage for the holes her horse had been leaving in the surface.

The company I work for is exclusivly road side work a have been spat at run down sworn at more times than I can convay and 90% of the work do is for safety reasons
