Hitchclimber query

Just tried it with the wheel facing away and I wasn't overly keen, I'm used to puking down on the rope near to me and it just felt wrong the other way. Hey ho, what works for one doesn't for the other:biggrin:

I could never get away with the v.t although my set up was a bit longer than that, I find the distel far better, and I use a fishermans instead of a bowline because once loaded the knot grabs the krab, instead of it floating around, I also use the middle hole which sits it out of the way, I did find with a v.t if your climbing up on a crossed up rope as you reach the crotch, the rope can sit in front of the knot preventing it from graving the rope so becareful , holla

how well does it work? the whole hitch climber thing....

i still cant get my head around body thrusting with this kind of setup......or am i missing something?

the mechanical advantage looks limited to me.

With the HC and VT or similar hitch, the idea is not to body thrust but pull your self up a few feet, tend slack, then a few feet more, tend slack etc etc. I'm still a learning climber, and went from klemheist to VT/HC within a few months of starting tree climbing. I'm still rubbish when I get up the tree, but at least I can get there a little quicker! The hitchclimber works very well, it's awesome. :thumbup1:

If the knot gets in the way and you don't have a splice you could try the O rig. I think Drew posted a video of it once.

Thanks... But my original question was about putting slack in the system.... does anyone else do this? Say you want to move freely for a minute, like advance out on a limb.... Know what I mean? I pull down on my hitch, but really hard to get some slack.

With my original setup its much easier.
