Bunch of muppets, they put the 10mph speed limit on Windermere lake and look what that did for the area! I love living in the area but the people who run it are dicks!!

:thumbup: well said, they are not impartial they are only looking after their own interests and consider the Lakedistrict as their own property, when infact the parks are for the enjoyment of everyone, i think that the FoLD and NE behaved disgracefully in this planning application. that,s just my thought,s

That,s why i liked it, peaceful. lovely places to anchor up for the night and be the only yacht there.

Best thing they ever did IMO.

 

I'm sure the countless locals who had to close or loose Buisnesses would agree, it took alot of money from the area, it has taken a long time for the area to recover to where it is now.

No not really, but then there are a few less businesses and a few more struggling.

Got to agree that the lake is quieter and a nicer place to work on (my 2nd job as am outdoor instructor has me on the lake a fair bit). I don't get buzzed by jet skis anymore but then I don't get the spectacle of the record setting speed week either.

 

The LDNPA already had speed restrictions on all other lakes, with Windermere being left as the only venue to ski, go fast etc. Then with the aim of getting world heritage status (and the £20mil that goes with it) they started talking of erosion and wakes from boats-err a boat on the plane has minimal wake compared to the same boat off the plane,doh!

 

The long and the short is they could've addressed the stated issues by zoning the usage of the lake ie <5 mph in the bays, powered craft north of bowness, unpowered anywhere, no craft in certain swimming friendly bays/ area. Working dispensations for companies with boats on the lake.

 

As it is we can no longer practice our powerboat reduces if they involve higher speed manoeuvres.
