people climb in them now, not in this industry but rock climbers do, think its just HSE. I have had the screw come undone on them but that could of been me not tightening it properly. Ive mixed opinions on them really.

The way it was explained to me, re: screwgates, is that in moutaineering/rock climbing the screw gate is checked to be secure prior to ascent, and in military applications this is drilled into you. In tree work, there is more likelyhood of the gate rolling open as you clamber thru branches, but where did the non-use of screw-gates for chainsaw strops come in? Loler regs?

our loler inspector said we can't use screw gates any more on saw strops, due to risk of it coming undone. you could only use it for eg. holding silky or first aid kit.

Why would you want to use a screwgate at all? i just don't see the attraction :shrug:
