Hi

We have been making good pace with our new processor, so we have been filling m/3 bags on a per unit basis for a guy near us and feel able to offer this to others now. BUT this is on the understanding the wood is a 8" max diameter and stacked sensibly and there is a forklift or handler and someone to keep us fed with bags. We bring the processor with 1 operator and a labourer to pass the wood to the machine, just pm me or give us a bell if your interested. Like I say a few constraints but its working well for us at the moment, any takers??

We travel......but travel fuel at cost to you, we fuel the processor:thumbup1:

£20+ vat per bag filled we are looking for, does that sound fair to you lot??

Im not having a dig at your price as you have priced it at what you think is wright for you but to give you an idea we have a guy processing our wood in south wales for £160 a day inc fuel and him operating and loading the machine and me with the telehandler either side we do between 16-20 cube in a 8 hour day and he can process stuff up to 12". Im not sure how different processing prices differ from up north to down south.

There is a clear winner on that deal, he will be left with around £30 profit a day, pointless in my opinion.

couple people down here process for around £30 an hour.. thats 2 men a 1.5 ton digger with small log grab on to load with... the other guy with just processor and 2 men is 20 an hour.... way they look at it is processor costs less than 10 grand and they only get £25 an hour for £60.000's worth of tractor and hedge cutter..

Yes but they may just notice sitting in a warm cab flicking levers is a lot easier than standing in the rain pulling wet wood in and out of a processor. I like their logic though 'we dont earn much doing one thing lets see if we can earn less doing something else'. Mind you £20 an hour is more than we earn when we buy in cord and retail logs to the public so they must be doing something right.

I know times are hard but that is pretty desperate. Lifting 10 tonnes of timber a day he will certainly be enjoying hospital food by the end of the week.

Be nice to see some figures to back that up:-

A processor at 10k 50% occuppied over 2 years @ 46 weeks/ year and assuming residual value of £5k has a write down of £21.74 per day + cost of finance.

Allow a tenner for belts, shrpening and hydraulic oil and you are still left with £125/day less fuel so it is not obvious where you get your £30 profit figure from

Cheers

mac
