Here are a couple of pics of the good points and bad points behind the flail head on our BCS Flail. Please note the last two pics were when we decided to call it a day. Its at the bottom of the page

Had the BCS in the menders for a new set of roller bearings as the old ones completely collapsed. Whilst it was in it was given a full service. It starts first pull from cold with a proper length of cord as the old one was about 1/3 the length it should have been. Had the handle bars sorted as they were going very loose (they are now fixed in place). Also had the hammers sharpened all for £229 inc vat.

We are now going to be biting the bullet. Going to be buying a brand new BCS with part ex for the old one as we have just blown a coupling, clutch and bearings on the flail roller. Going to be about 600 quids worth so going to get it fixed then look at buying a new one as parts for the old one are very difficult to get hold of.

Is this the best thing to do? I know Bcs are always updating and modifying as any manufacturer, but you do end up with this obsolete situation with them. I don't know what to suggest for alternatives either!

The boss worked out we have spent 3k in the past 18 months on repairs. So makes sense to buy a new one. Looking at a 740 bank commander model with the Yanmar deisel engine.

We looked at the 18.5hp DR but the DR will only cut at one height and doesn't leave a very good finish which is what we are looking for on the rights of way network and heavier site work.
