im going for the stein rc3001 in the next few days too, all that i have read and looked at, its worth the money, anything must be better than a portacrap though, they wind me up bad, forestandarb.com are the cheapest on the net by around £50!!!

happy with my kit , thou the strop for the pulley is a tad on the long side , so il have to order a shorter item for those skinny trees

Use a cow hitch, great for using up excess sling.

cow hitch is a great knot, better to tie if the tale is long than a timber hitch. I use the tree runner, it's good but do have me concerns about it getting bashed when chogging down lumps, but alittle bit of pre planning should stop that. Used the 14mm polydyne rope for 3 months now, its rather good to say the least - and just for note my configuration does run along the lines of 14mm rope, 16mm pulley, 19mm dead eye, i also have a 16mm dead eye and smaller pulleys, slings and things.

All good, you sound to work in a similar world to me. a portawrap III and DMM impact block would be my offering. covers the semi hardcore friction unit while being able to rest easy knowing your metalwork at the top will do its job too.
