On the sprocket cover of my 240 there are 2 holes at the front I can only presume are for a second set of spikes as are standard on the larger saws. I think they would be helpful when snedding and want to add them. Trouble is the spacing of the holes is different to the 1st set.

So, what do I buy?

Thanks in advance to spudulike and Megatron! (and anyone else with ideas of course!)

I think you are missing the point gents - how else is a self respecting chainsaw operator supposed to pimp his saw? Adding a tricked out set of doggs is big bling, init!

Nothing on the parts list apart from the crank case mounted ones, checked the 026 and nothing there either.

I have made sets of dogs before, just carved them out of some thick gauge steel and used the original ones as a template.

Only seen them on the bigger saws though - typically 066, 880, 3120.......

Having just been to the shed and checked, the sprocket cover casting is identical on the 026, 044 and 066M (if I had the parts lists to hand I suspect I could confirm identical part numbers). This answers the question of why the holes are there - for use on the bigger saws. It also answers the question as to what to order - outer set of dogs for an 044 or 066 (I very much suspect that the 034/036, 046 and 064 ones will be the same too).

Now back off to the shed to fish the piece of Alaskan mill from behind the shelves, where it fell when I got the 026 out - maybe I have too many bits of chainsaw....)

Yes. You can get a set of dual spikes from Stihl that will fit. Essentially there are three sizes;

-outer dog similar in size to the inner you already have.

-"Standard" dual dogs used on MS440 etc

-"Oversized" dual dogs used on MS660-Magnum

Do you want the roller chain catcher?

If it's about pimping the saw it has to be the Magnum ones surely....?

Make sure that along with the Magnum Doggs, you order part number 4242 - LED underlighting. Fits beautifully underneath, giving a classy orange glow perfect for impressing the honeys.
