The logical way of sorting out this MS660 handle issue is to get rid of the heat away from the brake handle and to perhaps use a steel skeleton or struts inside the plastic handle.

I reckon heat is probably retained on long cuts and warms the handle - the handle is some sort of thermo plastic and softens as it heats.

Big dogs may keep the exhaust clear of the wood, a new exhaust outlet at the front of the muffler would help - a dual port would get rid of circa 50% out the front of the muffler - extending the top cover and putting reflective aluminium heat shield inside it would again help.

If Stihl admit there is a fault, it would mean an expensive recall on top of the bad press they have already received - guess they won't do anything until someone is badly hurt and the brake handle is a contributing cause.

In their defence, the saw is donkeys years old and the design has changed very little since the 064 came out!

Coming in thick and fast.

Three ms200t saws. One needing new seals, now has a funny tick over issue, will run perfect on the ground but on harness will die, but will fire straight back up first pull.

One needs new anullar buffers.

Last one needs new throttle trigger as won't go into half choke, also a bit funny on running. Pull trigger and it will die sometimes. But others will be perfect all day long.

Two (soon three) ms260,

One needs new piston.

One is running fast, high tick over.

And another needs a new piston. And not oiling.

And an old stihl. Make unknown as yet as the number has gone off the side, really really really old. Not looked into it yet! but just won't run.

Husky 351, hates cold starting and high tick over.

Is that not the usual accelerator pump problem?

No. It's got an old 020 carb on it. So a deep clean and see what happens. It will adjust on the low screw. Will run perfect on the ground and cutting, revs up and drops off fine, will just tick over, then the revs start jumping around a small amount that if you didn't listen you wouldn't notice then just stops. But first pull and away it goes ticking over.

It's annoying In a tree.

With the old stihl, if you can get a crank number you can cross reference it quite easily

Been porting a 346XP today, pretty standard method by now, pictures below show the widened exhaust and inlet port, a little re-modeling of the uppers and lowers.

The muffler has been opened up and will be running a 13" Sugihara bar and 8 pin rim:thumbup:

Do you use a air die grinder or dremel type thing for opening up the ports? Just wondering
