Why do you have to hold it in? Is it faulty and weak? They are still available at about £22 as ive just bought 2.

I know where your coming from about using decomp. The 075 had a blanking plug which I soon changed hence 1 decomp, the other like your was weak and would pop out every time even if it didn't fire.

No, the 070/090 decomp has to be held in, it doesn't lock, they are operated by a piece of sprung metal

Maybe they can be substituted? That's confusing, so you have to hold it in manually and listen for it to fire before releasing it?

Just looked and a decomp for a 090/070 is only £6 odd + vat! Considerably cheaper than 051-075/076 range

My 660 big bore just threw the crankshaft out through the bottom of the case...

I am not that happy about it to be honest.

Oh, once it fires you let go, the actual firing of the engine is enough pressure to shut it

That metal strip across the top is the decomp

Thats really terminal. I'm astounded by the amount of damage, was this at full revs when it let go?

Bit of jb weld and it will be good to go,

 

Said the small end had gone,

 

Nice and easy fix then, new pot and piston. A few tests.

 

Looks like the pot had split. Could be an imperfection on it.

I'll buy the pot and piston and I'll pay you a fair bit too if you'll fix it!

Yep I guess a new crank case is in order aswell.

 

Might be cheaper to just buy a new saw. Or a second hand one and save what you can off this one for parts?.

There's a crank on eBay for a 660 now
