Ok so a bit of confession time me thinks. :blushing::blushing:

 

I've been porting a 026 for a bit and today I finished and put it all back together. Started it up with the usual butterflies. It started and ran. Just put the bar into some timber.

 

It made contact and stopped with a clatter and bang. :blushing:

 

Tried pulling over and it would but felt lumpy and chattery. :thumbdown:

 

Me thinking poo and all words I can't say went back to the bench and took the pot off expecting to find knackerd rings, broken crank and all manner of horrible things.

 

NOTHING rings good, pot good, crank good.............

 

So pot went back on and pulled over gently, still clattering, as I pulled I happend to look into the flywheel area.

 

Wait for it......

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I had forgotten to tighten up the flywheel nut. :blushing::blushing::blushing::blushing:

 

The saw is on the bench as that's where I left it as I'm wet and hungry.

 

A pause for the laughter....

 

i am glad you aint a real doctor!!

 

imagine ya patients leaving with bits hanging off!!!

 

we all done it in way or form.

 

remember a chap who wasnt the full ticket baling a field , finnish the field baled around 400 small bales only to find he had no string in the baler!!

 

as stated he wasnt all there and must have been l blind as well

I'm glad I'm not either. I'd be leaving tools in the patients every time. :lol:

Thats bad luck Rich, its so easy to overlook things, especally if interupted. I sometimes spend as much time rechecking things as doing the job.

 

That mistake is likely going to cost you a new flywheel, ouch:thumbdown:

Yeah I was dreading it. But looked it over and it all looks good.

 

I don't know how I missed it. I checked everything on the saw and spent a while getting it back together.

 

Hey ho. It's done up now so pot back on tomoz and go for round two.

Be carefull, cus if it has spun, it will almost certainly have damaged the taper, and if that taper is not perfect it wont stay tight for long. Also, under no circumstances must the taper be lubed.

Yep no lube. Will take it off tomoz and really check it over.

 

The woodruff key looks good.

 

I think I have just been very lucky with it. But I will find out tomoz.

 

Hopefully it's ok, the saw wasn't at any revs, and it stopped straight away. Seemed that the wheel wouldn't pull away from the shaft unless it was moving at the fast pull. Then it would stop turning.

 

It wouldn't carry on turning, just lock up. The crank would also stop turning aswell. Hence why my first thought was seize.
