Just checked it and the blade turns when I pull on the starter cord. Not sure what you mean by the handle on the top? :confused1:

 

Just like the domestic mowers. One handle you hold for start/stop and one for forward if its equipped.

 

First check would be if the cable is doing anything, follow the cable to the engine and check its operation on the engine.

 

Next step is removing the covers to get to flywheel.

Edit just seen your post. Ok, it should feel very free when held. Check the cable and its operation. I can't remember what the adjustment is on them. As they seem to get changed. I've had three all with different cables on them.

Had a fiddle with the cable and it seems to be sticking just enough to catch unless you really haul on the handle. I can get it pulled up enough to get the engine to pull over like a normal un-siezed mower so now I know what I am dealing with. Thanks very much for your help, Rich. Your very welcome. Are you camping up there? I'm looking at it but not sure what gear I've got left after the winter. Might need to go shopping.

That's the plan if I can get a pass. :biggrin: Just been mucking about with it some more and the spark is a bit weedy so next step will be a new plug. Looks like the cable was gripped over tight by a cable tie or two. :001_rolleyes:

Ah the old common problem, :lol::lol::lol:

 

Yeah I need to sweeten the other up for a hall pass for the night. Havnt asked her yet.

 

Check the gap on the plug, also check ht lead is in good nick aswell.

Thanks for the offer openspaceman. Those codes can't be seen on the affected parts though and tbh we are thinking of getting a new machine. The 240r was about 15 yrs old and battered to hell. Its going to see alot of work over the next few yrs so probably time for a new one. Do you guys rate the new husqvarna brushcutters?

 

I have a 343R, it's brilliant, husky have got the x-torq down to a fine art now, I would assume the 545R would pee all over my 343, so yes I rate them, more than an fs400/450 or those new ones

Got the new throttle cable on th eold Stihl 011AVT, all fine now it has some fresh fuel in it.

 

Half way through another MS200T rebuild, pressure checked perfect, new clutch springs fitted, one was broken.

 

Coming along well - just got to fit an oil pinion and arm on an MS180 as well!
