Dont know about you mr garden kit,if i had a pound for everytime sombody had told me "the grass is growing you know"we wouldnt be sat in workshop all night repairing mowers!!

our Mountfield 725m is well over 10years old , only ever had to replace the cutter cable as is had been routed next to the exhaust, went to drive it outta the shed and it was making a loud clicking noise from the axle... stripped it down and the gears are all worn, went to local agent and they wanted £220 for a new axle even though its only the 4 gears I need. Any ideas on fixing the axle without spending so much moolah.

Sorry Gav, your dealer is correct. The gearbox is only sold as a complete unit. No internal spares are available The current RRP is £243 plus vat

A busy couple of days. A partner strimmer needing new fuel lines.

 

A mcullock hedge cutter needing repair to handle. And four mower blades to balance and sharpen.

 

Also got the ms250 in, tested and used, punched well above its weight cutting and was fine. Not rally sure what to do about it. Will get some timber and get the customer to use it in front of me. Only thing I can think of doing.

 

Also fitted a fog lamp kit to a hilux.

just a quick one O wise ones.

i have need to remove the current grease from the gearbox on my fs400, has been filled with red fluid grease.

 

makes some dodgey noises untill it has warmed up a bit.

Do you mean the gear head?

 

If so remove the plates strip the gears out and clean, any degreaser works ok. The refill with the correct grease.

 

And when the gearbox is apart and clean check all gears and shafts for wear.

 

Obviously strip it down in a manner that means it easy to remember how it goes back in again.

yeah it was the gaer head i was on about.

Fill it with gunk degreaser from the hole where you put in the grease and replace the plug then give it a shake about and turn the spindle by hand for while and tip the resulting mess out of the hole. Repeat a few times and that should be job done. Best off if you can fill it up and leave it overnight to break the grease down.
