Douwe Egberts the gold one is my favorite instant coffee

Lorry,

So you're drinking Dutch coffee then  . In The Netherlands we very often use a coffee machine called Senseo, which was co-invented by Philips and Douwe Egberts, using prefabricated pads to make coffee with a foamy head on top. My favorite is Mocca  .

While visiting a German exhibition on fungi (what else :001_tongue: ), I read a story on the British mainly drinking coffee until 1893, when over 93 % of all coffee plants in Ceylon were killed by the coffee leaf rust Hemileia vastarix and Ceylon replanted all fields with tea, which from that moment on - besides water, milk and sugar - became the most imported and important ingredient of hot drinks consumed by the British. Only after coffee mainly came from new and parasite free plantations in Brasil, they also started drinking coffee again. Today the coffee leaf rust and the coffee berry disease still is a big problem causing a lot of financial damage to coffee producing countries all over the world.

Tommers coffee machine rules

:thumbup1:

I have managed to kill three gaggia machines in the last 5 years so if anyone needs spare bits they are on the shelf in the workshop.

I could do with a new bit that holds the coffe....the handle has snapped on my machine.

This gaggia has been repaired twice, but wont make another repair.

You tried Briel machines? They make superb coffee:thumbup1:, but have serious reliability issues.

I hear you there Rob!

Purists look away now-

Can anyone recommend a half decent INSTANT coffee? I'm sick of disappointing Nescafe etc.

I am told that Kenco is the only instant worth bothering with; Nescafe is known as rubbish in this area.

Starbucks or costa (i forget wihch) have brought out this instant coffee stuff. Its quite pricey, but when my Gaggia goes wrong thats what i reach for.

It doesnt taste like gone off weetabix like all the other instants do, and doesnt seem to glue up your mouth like them either.

Failing that, tescos do these funny little filter things you just put on top of your cup and pour boiled water through, like a filter coffee. 10 strength five for £1.99:thumbup1:

Your coffee machine hits the spot bud...

I am on my last handle, But may try a repair. The handles last longer if you clean the seal with dumpy flat blade screw driver as you need less torque to make a good seal. I was thinking bean to cup machine for about £500 maybe a miele or similar. The simple manual gaggia machines make an excellent cup and are fairly well made inside.

Totally agree there.

I have been disappointed with all the bean to cups i have come across TBH. I like the way i make it, and the bean to cups just dont seem to come out the same.
