A little tip, if you need to do the job yourself, a good heavy rag soaked in diesel and left under the nest if accessible will do the job overnight, or if the nest is underground a piece of pipe and pour diesel in. Get well covered up though

Not very eco friendly I know, but simetimes needs must.

 

Is it the fumes which gets them and kill them? I've got a nest growing in my barn and i'm not afraid to say i'm a little scared

Hit a small nest yesterday whilst mowing and found a massive one today. Got stung 6 times on the neck. Boss then parked the van on top of it lol. Never seen him run so fast.

Destroyed 3 nests last year in my Mums garden. All within 15 meters.

1 in the flower bed against the house was disposed of with a can of nest/wasp killing foam. Did the job well but no cheap. Hence the last 2 were precision petrol bombed - much cheaper, much more satisfying. Equally as effective as the foam.

This year she only has 1 but it's under the eaves of her thatched roof, might have to give the diesel rag a go this time.

Yes, it's the fumes that do for them, in your situation at your barn, do it at dusk or after dark when they are pretty dormant.

Wasps are generally a bit nastier at this time of year because the larvae that feed them are slowing down, they are more likely to feed on fermenting fruit and the like and basically they are pissed, and thats why they are more aggressive.

my mate got stung 40 times moving cows the other day they seem to be pretty bad round here at the mo, i cut through a dead oak branch which had a nest in they didn't like one bit luckily they attacked my mate and not me, unlucky for them he has a big tractor and grab.

Found another very active one this time its in my neighbours house eaves. They've been on holiday for a few months so the nest is massive. Got pest controllers coming to look at it tomorrow as they are attacking everyone that walks past the house.

Another one this morning, in the ground where I was mowing. Farmer told me ant powder is good for getting rid of that sort of nest. Says it contains the same chemical as wasp nest killer.

That foam stuff you can get in the supermarket worked a lot better than I ever expected

Just got back from holiday in flambrough, there were loads of them up there, our lass (bless her ) got stung whilst on the beach !

If you wanna go near the nest to remove it. An old British Army NBC suitand respirator will do the trick,they cant sting through it!!
