Hi Mark I use the long wire fid from Nod, I've got an old push fid that I use for measuring "fid length/short fid length" etc, the wire fid does a brilliant job, I'm a novice with "modern" ropes but am enjoying splicing doublebraid(poison ivy)-still destroys my hands tho unlike the guys that splice on you tube and make it look so bloody easy, the wand looks nice but it ain't cheap.

Good luck bud

Oh and don't forget the crochet hook from Nod it makes extracting the core sooo much easier:thumbup:

Like the others said, get a wire fid from Treeworker. I started splicing a couple of months ago and i'm addicted to it!

Other things you'll need are: Tape measure, Crochet hook, decent heavy duty scissors, permanent marker, an old karabiner, Nylon/rubber hammer (for the stubborn crossovers!), and an old prussic loop.

For whipping you'll need some twine, a sail makers palm, sail makers needle, and a pair of pliers.

I think thats everything!

An easy rope i found to splice is the EB Braids 12mm rigging rope from treeworker. i started on Yale silverstreak which i found a nightmare to splice :sneaky2:
