Had a few lengths of difficult and unstable Oak in my yard, so last time the woodmizer was in, I got them milled into substantial beams for coffee tables. The figuring is quite astonishing and very unusual for Oak.

This table took an afternoon to do, going over the planer and then finished with hand planes (not sanded, as the belt sander barely made a dent in it, though the ends are sanded). It's finished with Olive oil for the time being. In a few months, when it's a bit drier, I'll sand it properly.

It's about 4ft long, a foot high and a foot wide and weighs 100kg!

Cedar finishes nice using floor oils or worktop oils.

Apply lots of thin coats & buff between coats.

Thanks folks! It really was quite quick to do, and I think it will prove to be a good use of difficult logs (the guff that you have to take with the good stuff).

I was also thinking it might be quite amusing to market them as a looter resistant furniture line. Any looter than can physically make off with a 100kg coffee table is one to be avoided at all costs!
