Ash burr

I have seen a large Ash Burr in one of my woods. It's about 3ft X 2ft on the side of a little ash. It is about 25ft in the air. I fancy making something out of it but what and how? Not got a lathe so woodturning is out,

It would still make a great bowl even without a lathe. Rough it out with chainsaw and scorp out freehand. Could treat yourself to an arbortech disc for your grinder.

you wanting to make something to utilise it from or just an ornament, a nice celtic cross would look nice on a burr grain....

I used to be carpenter and watched a guy in a joinery shop make a jig for a circular saw to hollow out bowls.

3X2 foot is a big bowl! I will have a look at the arbotech disc. Did they get banned here in the UK?

News to me, they've been around a long while. Could be thinking of the Lancelot ones, they're actually chainsaw chain! Popular in US, but I'd bet arbortech is safer.

Yeh, it would be a big bowl, maybe too big for your morning cereal but the kind of thing that people will covet.

3 ft by 2 ft is pretty millable...

 

 

Get some good coffee tables out of it.
