Can you arrange go out with a trained climber? Seeing someone climb safely and efficiently and taking their advice while actually on site will be much better and easier to understand than answers given here :001_smile:.

As others have already advised, get yourself some proper training. When you have received some training gain some experiece with an already experienced climber. Because the best training in the world does not instantly make you a competent and safe climber who is also capable of undertaking tree work. After your training it takes patience and practise practise practise.......

In direct answer to your question though, no responsible climber would climb a tree without a secondary work line. This is usually a short length (approx 3m) of climbing rope and referred to as a side strop. This is used to tie yourself into the tree when advancing your mainline up the tree and is also used to help you get into and maintain a safe working position.

Get trained, be safe and stay safe.

How do you safely change anchor point in the tree when the first anchor point was very low? How do you strap in? Do you freeclimb:scared1:

I'm a safty first guy so no monkybuissnes. sorry for my bad english:blushing:

If you are asking because you want to attempt to do work on a tree, then as above, do a course then work with someone experienced for a while so that you can see hazards you would otherwise have missed.

If you just want to climb for fun (ie. no chainsaw), find a competent climber to show you how. Your question is so simple, it sets alarm bells off for anyone who reads it. I would strongly advise not attempting what you might be thinking about until you have had some hands-on training (formal or casual).

If you are new to this then take note of everything everyone tells you, get on a coarse before something bad happens, the question you asked is pretty amateur or you have no experience what so ever, there are ways of getting the best anchor point from the ground and failing that you should always carry a secondary anchor ie....side strop/Lanyard or another climbing line, so if you are new to this then the best advice i can give you is STOP what your doing, get into collage or on a couple of coarse's or even ask for some work with a local tree surgeon and get them to show you how its done, stay safe and good luck...
