Friction hitches etc?

Hello guys n girls.

This is my first post up here, so forgive me if it sounds like a daft question. But what kind of friction set ups do you all favour for climbing?

I'm off to Merrist Wood in September to get all my papers, but in the mean time I've been practicing with a prussik knot (under supervision of course). I think it's an amazing system, but having browsed the knot guide on here I can see there are loads of options.

What do you prefer?

Thanks

Will

Never a daft question mate:thumbup1:

I love the prussic and will always have one handy, i still use it on my flipline/side strop but i now use a spiderjack for my main climbing line. The thing with knots is more a self preference thing, try as many as you can and choose the one that suits you best. Some knots are good for some but others may hate them so its just what works for you.

Welcome to Arbtalk and keep asking the daft questions:thumbup1:

Friction knots are very hard work to climb with unless combined with a pulley. The easiest system is the Lockjack or spiderjack, of course not everyone likes them.

It's a very personal thing in the same way as suiting a harness.

There is no 'best' so try many and different hitch cords suit different ropes.

Look through the history on this climbers talk forum and you'll find out more.

Be safe.

i started climbing on a prusik found that if your a heavy lad it tends to lock up and sometimes be a bit stiff, so i changed to the blakes hitch found that a good knot however i was introduced by friend to the hitch climber i used the distel knot combined with pulley and that was really good sometimes doesnt bight when you pull through but otherwise i find it a brilliant knot.

The Distel Hitch revolutionised my climbing, when used with a micro pulley it is an amazing system, that you can also belay off! The ISA also do a great video to show you how to tie it search on u-tube!

Agreed. Superb hitch , i'd never go back to a prussic. I use it on my main line and on my strop with a pulley for one handed tending.
