ISA arborcamp seminars

Recommended Posts

Hi all, having just got back from the awesome FRJones show incorporating the ISA arborcamp I was very disappointed to see the very good FREE lectures given such a wide birth at the show, ESPECIALY with so many arbtalkers present at the show.

the series of talks where excellent and some truly great insights and knowledge was given away for gratis, those few who did attend i am sure gained a lot from it.

Glynn percival gave some great insights into P and D (pests and disease) issues that are becoming more prevelent in the current global climate and excelent advice and methods for managing/boosting tree health to ensure robustness and recovery from such pests and diseases.

Andrew cowan introduced us to the ideas of the life cycle and changing morphology of trees throughout thier long long lives and colonisation of principle decay fungi such as meripilus, and highlighted the reasons why the interactions of such fungi are normaly harmless within normal envoronments and the stresses that are involved in changing what is essentialy a natural harmless proscess into a pathogenic/dangerous scenario.

Nigel fagg highlighted key points in the new BS 3998 standard and I was shocked at just how much has changed and now regret not having paid more attention to this document for it is going to change a great deal in what we do, as climbers we will be effected, and was a worthy subject of discussion for EVERYONE in our industry. i think off all of these presentations this was the most important one to many of you.

Russell ball gave a brilliant talk On TPO proceedures and legalities offering valuable inside insights to the whole planning side of TPO application and legislation, a talk i gained a great deal from and much interaction and discussion was had within the audience and Russell.

And of Course our own AA teccie Paul smith representing the AA and highlighting the new changes and assesment model for AAAC scheme complience, a definate good move on thier part i think, you definatley have no excuse to abstain from AAAC status now, it is only going to cost you 500 a year to be AAAC and has the added benifit of combining a CHAS certification. This will open doors to contracts you simply could not have entered without, and that can only be good for the growth of your business.:thumbup1:

I wanted to urge many of you to join us in the lecture tent but felt i was going to be flogging a dead donkey!:001_rolleyes: However, a surprising last minute conversation with our very own Marc (legend) Bolam the thought and intention WAS there to come and see whats to be learned:001_cool:

So Knowing that you are at least partially of the mind I am here to not just urge you but beg you and ask as a personal favour to attend some of these next year. Not all of them where relevant to working climbers, though all the info given was of great value overall.

So next year in advance of the event i will select a few of the best bits in the programs and ask you to attend these with me not only for your own benifit, for you would gain more than you realise, but to support those that take thier valuable time to GIVE this info to us all.

I know Russell ball for one gave up his birthday to be present and present, and all his involvement is voluntary which means he does a 14 hour day regularly. this kind of effort should be acknowledged by us ALL and reflected by attendance, you dont have to see them all, just come along and just open your mind to concepts/info that you may never have considered before.

so come on guys, dont give me the finger when I drag you by the heels to the lectures next year, no arguments, come and learn a little:thumbup:

A tanoid to remind people when the lectures were starting should of been a given as far as I'm concerned.

Very suprised there wasn't one :confused1:

Thanks Hama good post, sorry Dave I was let down by the PA guy who was also doing the music, I phoned him at 9.30 on Friday and was told he thought it was a Saturday / Sunday show and was in Newcastle. I spent an hour phoning around but couldn't get anyone at short notice. It won't happen again next year you have my word.:001_smile:
