I just use a MP3 player under my ear defenders. Works primo and I don't get the issue of losing signal everytime I move which seems to be a problem with the built in ones I have tried. I just make sure I don't turn the volume up to loud or over compensate with the volume when I'm chipping. It also means I can play my own music as well as listen to the radio. MP3's are cheap as chips these days so if it only last 6 months so what.

I've a pair of Sordin helmet mounted ones that have lasted really quite well - something like 7 years now I think with only the aerial needing a bit of re-attachign and a broken wire re-soldering.

One thing I noticed with them though was that they dont seem to stop as much outside noise as the standard husky ear defenders, but still plenty fine enough when cutting.
