i was thinking about getting in to a bit of fire wood......giving away decent hardwood to my competators so they can make a profit probably aint doing me favours also somthing to do on rainy days would be nice when i looked at tractors in the farm trader i had a shock they want 2500 for a shitty old x reg leyland and that was probably the cheapest tractor in there.

any ideas about what would be a cheap set up with still a bit of power i was thinking about trying to put an old pto hydrolic take off say on a old rotten series land rover rear prop and using that as a take off or any of the electric or self powered og splitters any good?

i paid £800 for my tractor matty, and it gives me little trouble. i do about 200ton of logs a year at the moment, with a hakki pilke processor.

the processor would be your biggest expense but worth its weight in gold. maybe as mike if he has any trade ins coming...1X47 is what i use, wouldnt recommend going smaller if you dont have to.

a circular saw bench is better than nothing and can be had for a few hundred quid

but if you're only going to do 20-30 loads in your first year you're probably as well doing it by hand and making a bit more cash

I did a few last year by hand but splitting 1 transit load brings out my wrst and tennis elbow and back in pain for a week or so and aint worth it if i got to climb the next day....

firewood by hand sucks and isn't profitable imo ,unless you have no work at all, cheap petrol powered splitter would be the cheapest way to go if you ask me..

Ah just the thing. Hakki Pilkie Hawk. 13hp Honda with 4 way split upto 10" material. 13" chain bar. 2.5MTR Conveyor. Bargain used 2006 machine £3250 + vat.
