Reading all the threads on here about gear being stolen it only leaves me to believe the UK has gotten worse since I left. That accounts for both the theiving little scrotes and the insurance companies, or are they one and the same? Sometimes we don't realize how good we have it over here. Hope your mate gets something sorted.

 

I don’t think it has got worse, I do think your circle of friends has got a lot bigger.

 

Pre internet you might have heard about local robberies several weeks later, now I hear about robberies at the other end of the country that happened half an hour ago.

Just realised today weve had another one gone this time in Hope Valley on LV shutdown the lads seem to think its the land owner as they went to see if it was still there and this chaps cut down loads of trees and logged them up in the week since we were there-and he didnt want to answer the door to them. What can we do????

two teams on our job today, we were the first on site, and by the time the other team arrived me and the other climber were up the conny's.

 

i'd finished the first lot, got out, took harness off, fancied a drink so went to the front of the house where the second teams van was. only to find both front windows open, keys in the ignition, the two back doors (its a crewcab with the back racked out) wide open with all saws, climbing kits, hedge cutters etc on display to the world.

 

to say i went off on one was an understatement.....

I am certain that your routines on a day to day basis are being closely monitored by the Watchers who in turn are forwarding intel to the thieves. Break up your routines at once and always have someone with the kit. Never leave it out of reach. I know this sounds rather insane but I have determined that all of the kit being stolen can not and should not ever be taken for granted. Your candor is to be commended now go and protect your kit and read my thread means and methods for protecting your kit. All the best.

Update - the insurance have refused to pay up as the saws were not chained up in vehicle so I asked our broker-

"do i have to make it so its impossible for saws to be stolen?"

he said

"yes"

so bet you can guess my reply-

" why do i need to insure them then ?"

If the saws are in a tool box locked do they also need to be chained in there mate?
