my insurance with NFU covers my tools in any locked vehicle or building but saying that it is only a tradesmans policy. They now seem to only cover you for tree surgery if you already have a policy with them. Try arbinsure who are site sponsors on here

my NFU household insurance covers me for £5k's worth of private tools in sheds and outbuildings, and my NFU business policy covers me for £7ks worth of work tools where ever the tools are located

How about a proper alarm to accepted standards (PD 6662:2004). If it is in an area where joe public will hear the alarm and notice any burglary activity. £500-£700 for the alarm, compared to one chainsaw at the same price. You can have options for dial up to a mobile phone fitted as well. That should keep insurance companies happy, and could even result in a discount maybe.
