As a stove installer i can say that the percentage of my customers that heat their entire house with wood is very very small......it's not even 1% of the wood burner market.

Most of my customers bought a wood burner because they like the look of a real fire. They're a toy. They'll maybe use between 1 & 3 loads of wood a year. £360 a year for something they'll enjoy on the cold winter evenings is not a lot of money.

If your running central heating then yes you need free or cheap firewood. I had a customer the other week wanting to change from oil to wood for her heating. She was going to need 40kW to heat her house. I told her to stick with the oil and just get a stand alone stove in the room she uses the most. That's what she did and she is very happy.

To be honest though if someone is spending 6 or 7k on a solid fuel central heating setup and don't check out fuel prices prior to doing so then maybe they shouldn't be left in charge of a fire:)

I dont understand why people are so scared of putting log prices up?! I have bottled gas central heating and in November it was £46 a bottle, now its £59, everyone in the area has put there prices up together so everyone has to pay it simple as that. same with Electricity, it looks like everyone will be putting the prices up 15-20% in the next few months, everyone does it so people have to pay it. people selling a cube for £40-50 is surely less sustainable than selling it at £120, they will soon realise there not making enough money and not bother any more. If everyone charged around the same price everyone would win, it happens in most other industries!

And its probably rubbish

I think this is what puts most of us from buying up all this cheap firewood.

I'm off out to get processing in a minute, if I had any faith in the quality, I would stay right here pick up the phone and have the day off.

Below is a Quote from Brendon on a similar thread.

"Baz i know where you are coming from with that one mate as everything else is going up. Going off the percentages that you have given if i was quoted 315 quid for a level load of mixed wood in a tranny tipper last year (December ) usually i will do 2 loads then this years prices at a conservative estimate would be 350 probably more ,thats 700 just for the winter months ,my combined gas/electric would come nowhere near that , OK i am just bouncing figures around ,but i reckon i would not be far off the mark .If wood suppliers do start to charge that price people will stop buying it and just switch the gas back on , i personally wouldn't want to do that but i am afraid my finances would not stretch far"

Which is exactly my point.

It's not arb waste, its arb arisings ;)

Keep getting as much free wood as you can because it won't last.

Part of the problem is the GP see woodland as just something, like concrete, they do not see it as a crop, or in fact something that is put there by people.

Hi Sam

In my original post I called it Arb Waste/Arisings.

My supply will last, plus I have my own woodland in which further planting will take place shortly.
