Is it commercially viable just to do firewood - wholesale and retail. Im in two minds about just concentrating on firewood its really where my roots are and enjoy it far more than the other side of our business which seems to be getting more cut throat and bogged down in endless red tape and brown envelopes!

i sold nearly £50.000's worth of firewood from september till march time.. admitadly lot of that wood was bought in but i've thought to myself what nice job that would be if thats all i did and could live off that money. i'd spend all summer collecting wood from other tree surgeons, sawin and splitting it, then should have enough split to just spend the winter months mostly in the warm delivering the firewood and still be out collecting wood for the next season.

Utility arb - mostly powerlines - the rail side is not so bad but the prices have dropped and your travelling further for work

I think this year will be harder to make a living as cord wood prices are rising, it all depends how you source your wood. I process firewood incl kindling part-time at the moment and am hoping to go full-time from Oct 2011 :)
