climbed this knot for years until I started using a knut and then a lockjack. its a massive improvement on a prussik and doesn't jam or slip as much. I still use it on takedowns as I find a lockjack gets in the way on them. I also use it as a cradling knot for a cradling sling when rigging.

Generally the next step up from a prussic loop

Generally taught on courses as a stand alone or as part of a 3 knot system.

Needs a Stopper knot

can be tied wrong easily

Very Versatile

I love this knot. in drop testing the rope will break before the knot will slip. I use it when double tying, somtimes as my main hitch. somthing all new climbers should know as it can be tied with the tail of your rope. learn the basics first, the step up to the fancy stuff if you want.

I use it as part of a 13mm 1.6m split tale onto main line of same diameter . ' bights ' very tightly so smaller dia would be no use . Was concerned with how it was releasing under load when my main climbing line got soaked in a heavy shower. Care needed tying it when fatigued. Really trustworthy knot though with virtually no redressing.
