Armilaria - Central cavity decayer

Something of a first find for me today.

 

 

We felled this Chestnut today.

 

At first, had apportioned it's demise to Bleeding canker, but the evidence of Armilaria being the primary culprit is overwhelming.

 

First three shots are 2009.

The last picture shows the central cavity & the demarkation lines (sclaratial plates) between competing fungi species.

Within the cavity the walls were covered by a complete sheath of Melanine, underneath which was the active Mycelium of the Armilaria.

 

Also within the central cavity were the tell tale rhizomorphs.

 

 

I had not noticed this type of Armilaria decay before.

But were these associated with Bleeding canker or the Armilaria ?
