got a job to clear a large patch of rhodies high on a fell side. is there any arbicide that kills them (and if so is there any regs controlling it's use) or do i have to burn the stumps out. no chance of getting a mulcher up there.

:confused1:

Looked into one a while back myself, can't remember who but I'll try to dig a couple of numbers out if I can find them. If access is fairly bad, have you looked at a hi-mac mounted mulcher - you will probably be suprised where they can get to and the amount of rhodie they will destroy in a day.

How big are the trunks as we have been working on some recently and whilst it was about 9ft high we have pulled 90% out by the roots by hand! and those that we couldnt we have cut off and are treating with glyphosate

check the fellside isnt SSSI/SAC/SPA as you may need Natural England consent for the herbicide as a potentially damaging op or if there are any watercourses through the site then its best not to spray within a couple of meters of this without EA consent
