The guy who had this job would have climbed it, but the tree was full of ants and they got all over him. So they called me in.

Things are kind of slow here so I decided to do a mechanic project I've been needing to do for 6 months or so. About a year ago I changed the motor in my forestry truck from an 8.2 liter Detroit (which was leaking exhaust into the coolant) to a 10.4 liter Caterpillar 3208. I finished it up in April of last year I think but there wasn't room for a belt driven fan on the front of the motor so I put in electric fans. These were inadaquate to keep the motor from overheating. So I cut out the supports in front of the radiator and moved it forward and latched it down, replumbed things and put in a belt driven fan drive assembly that I bought at a used truck parts place. Here is a video of it running when everything is finished.

What kind of Tree was it?

Apart from the obvious twin stemmed, elephant eared weak union, what was the reason for the clients displeasure with it?

It was a Silver Maple.

 

She was worried about it splitting during a storm and taking out the power. The union was bad, soil and water filled and split on impact.
