I know were all a helpfull bunch on here but Id find it hard to give good advice without seeing a tree, and assuming that a person can carry instructions without knowing that persons abilitys is a tad reckless.

what i try and do is look carefully and try and picture yourself doing the job and keep asking yourself questions ie what happens if i cut that which way will it fall ? consider the limb under tension you might have to do work in the tree its hung up in first . trick is take your time consider what you are doing . try and keep the limb below you so its hopefully going to fall away from you if you have to climb it hope this helps

Get somebody to do it who does not need to ask......thats my advice.....nothing wrong with getting advice.....thats what this forum is for. But this is as Tommer said potentially fatal for an inexperienced operative.

The opportunity has presented itself for someone who has more experience to come in and have a look at it. Leave it for someone who knows how to deal with hung up trees etc rather than trying to learn how to do it from here if your expertise aren't too crash hot. Better you don't kill yourself eh.

Okay, we all might do it, but this guy has just admitted to being new to this game and asked for experience, and you have given him some potentially lethal advice. The correct taught manner is to sever the root plate, attach a winch to the bottom of the stem and pull the stem until the crown falls to the floor, at no time walking or working under the hung up tree.

 

 

edit- the safest way is to do what Steve Bullman said, and use that as a valid learning experience.

 

This is good advice! Taking down hung up or windblown trees is a skilled operation.

The OP is, at his own admission, very inexperienced, and to offer the kind of advice you did to someone of his skill level is disgraceful. Sod the bloody tree health of the supporting tree, it will survive fine, and well you know it. What about the potential death of the inexperienced cutter. I am flabbergasted at your attitude here.
