I don't think I'd be too interested in a women-only get together (but I'm not in England anyway). What's the point? It's a male dominated industry, we all work with men 5 days a week, what's the point of our own private climbing get-together?

Women work more or less the same as men in the trees or on the ground, have more or less the same issues etc and the same things to learn. The biggest obstacle I come against is that gender is often too big an issue; if you do a bad job it's because you're female, if you do a good job it's despite being female. Each as irritating as the other. The only way past that attitude is to concentrate on the job, not the gender, and I feel that women-only events, however small, are not a step in the right direction, and maybe the wrong one. Honestly I'm not trying to be aggressive or dismissive, but after a few years I've learned that the best way to work as a female in this job is to forget about sex:scared1:haha ye know what I mean:001_tongue:

Yes we do work with men 5 days a week which is fine but every now and again its just a refreshing change to have a girls weekened away. Its good to be able to chat about different techniques at work and also general stuff in life that the blokes just can't relate to or understand, eg womens body shapes and kit design, moon cups and bras full of sawdust  Would you really have these conversations with the guys you work with everyday?

I wondered why it was a women only event, if there had been a men only event it would have been seen as sexist.

Sexist?! If you guys want a blokes only event feel free, I personally have no issues with that.

The only advantage to a women only event is that you may get girls who feel more comfortable with other women, but to be honest I think girls like that are going to struggle in this industry,IMO.

What a load of cr*p! I doubt girls that only get on with other girls would get involved in arb work in the first place!

Well the girls that attended don't seem to be struggling in this industry!!

Previous womens only event have been highly successful and the girls climbing has improved hugely over the past few years to the extent that we now have a euro champ and world champ amongst them.

struggle Not necessarily ! take time to adjust to arbos & our bloody minded 'I'm right attitude' , well maybe,

the physical side of our job, is what it is & I've had blokes try out for us, who after a day

I wouldnt ask to pick up a tea bag,

A strong mental Attitude, with a overriding willingness to learn & a 'I'm here to work, so lets get on with it' mentallity

will always be encouraged in my company Regardless of gender

as for get togethers Bloody brilliant ! Imo

not one of us on here, knows everything & its good to have a open forum both virtual & practical.
