Taken 20/5/2011. Purple Orchid is Southern Marsh Orchid. White Orchid is Lesser Butterfly Orchid. Not on our site but in piple to become site as part of trailway which is almost ours. Yellow/green pic at end are Wild Mignonette. It wasnt there last year but topped and raked site with quadbike so may have disturbed seed bank.

Great pics , especially of the orchids. By the way, do you know how Reseda lutea came to the U.K. ?

The Romans introduced it, using the plant's roots for a dye to colour their cloaks yellowish green with. And they also brought Artemisia vulgaris to the U.K. by wearing it in their sandals, which was meant to prevent their feet from blistering.

Little white flower is known as Eyebright. It is semi-parasitic on grasses and according to old age remedies was used to clear up bacterial eye infections such as Conjunctivitus. The orchids are the same ones in the field adjacent to Milldown that we have just taken on. The big logs are Cedar of Lebanon and weigh 2.5 ton each. Each year we put a notice up saying that if the litter around the logs exceeds 5 bags a month then they will be removed.
