I would go for a 130 over a 3500kg 110. Rear axle weight is too easy to exceed on a 110 due to shorter wheelbase and weighte being over rear.

 

Can you not overload a 130 more easily then a 110?

A 130 must weigh more than a 110 and has more load space.

Yeah they do weigh more but the weight in the bed is spread more evenly across the axles due to their positioning (most of loadspace between axles, little behind vs half half on the 110)

Okay, it's years ago but my 130 single cab with dropside came from the local dealer in Stratford and was ex-Landrover Special Vehicles. Try asking the dealer to contact LR to see if anything is being released soon. The main issue with overloading is self restraint based on experience.

There are so many different body combinations, a 130 double cab will carry its weight over the rear axle, yet a single cab would help carry that weight forward to the front axle. If you study photos of both 110 & 130 tippers you will notice the 110 has a lot of its body overhang behind the rear axle.

A 130 has a spring inside the main spring on the rear axle, IIRC our 110 is plated for 3050 and the 130 is 3500.

 

If you will be towing with it and you have a choice then it has to be a TD5, a 200 or 300 are good reliable engines but lack the bit of extra power when going up hills when loaded and towing. Having said that our 130 which is a 200 tdi has done 187,000 miles and tows a chipper or grinder most days.

What and where should I be looking for? I want something decent which will last long term and not need constant tinkering to keep it on the road. It's going to be the second truck and we don't work far from home so it won't be doing a lot of miles with us. and it should be yellow:001_smile:

Does age matter or is it all about condition?

What's a reasonable milage?

Is there any thing to look out for, does the chassis still rot?

 

How much should I be spending?

Best mates tipper 130 is 6foot 4 wide 8foot long the one were going to build for my hicap in the next few weeks will be 6foot by 6 foot 6 to make it sensible size !

HI HICAP yes mate the tipper size on my 110 is 6ft wide x 7ft 6 ins long with hd springs it takes 1500 kgs and it good on dev 25/27 mpg and its good in the snow for the log sale but im looking for high side for land rover all the best jon :thumbup:

My 130 is 6feet wide,& 8foot four long,I kept it narrow as I see this as one of the benefits of a landy.

The military use extended wing mirror arms on some of their landys,you can buy them if you search about,I got some britpart ones,but the quality is not as good.
