This evening I removed 3 viburnum and a cuppressus, all recently died, in one bed of a garden. When they were cut down, there was a strong yeasty aroma all around the area. Any ideas??? Even the cupressus didnt have the familiar aroma, just yeasty. havent come across this before.

Maybe the bloke that lives there has a slash there every night after the pub so he doesn't wake his missus up flushing the bog when he rolls in after shutting time!:sneaky2:

My mum and dad had a bit of privet that suffered from that about 20 years ago, strangely it went on to make a full recovery shortly after I left home!:001_tongue:

Thrush??????????????

Dunno about thrush, but there were some suspicious looking sparrows hanging around the neighbourhood.

So no-one else has noticed a yeasty aroma around dead trees/shrubs then???

PS did check in the crotches for mouldy residues too, and no sign of fungal growths either on the stems, or on the ground

Oh yes!

Would say Pops and Elm are the worst, we always say "like old granny's knickers!"

I know that smell, well not old grannies knickers, I'll leave those for you, but this was definitely yeasty. Never noticed it on conifers or viburnums before.

And if you 2 dont start behaving you can move your desks to the back of the class and let others who want to learn something... learn!!
