a journey into Arb

Really like the idea of the photos showing his progression, we have an apprentice (also named Tom) and I think I will start documenting his "journey" with photographs aswell as the usual pieces of paper.

Great stuff. Was this the intention or was it random that you were looking through all your pics and found these??

was the intention darren, I take huge numbers of shots (never know when you may need the evidence ) but it's been a great way for him & us, to see how far he's come.

Plus also liked the idea, right back at the begining, of creating a potfolio for younguns to see what it might be like to go down this road.

How does one recommend taking photo's of oneself when the rest of the workers think taking photo's and vids is a waste of time?

I mean, i get pics of before and after the work i've done and a few in the crown but nobody ever takes pics of me:crying:

mmmm that sounded wetter than it did in my head.... i'll go get me coat:lol:

i met Tom last week for the first time, and from the short time that i spent with him he came across as a very promising young arborist.

Excellent attitude and ability to communicate, also an efficient young climber.

Good luck for the future Tom!

Good to catch up with you on Friday Mr K. :001_smile:

Kind words, I'll pass them on :thumbup1:

Thomas was dead chuffed he passed both assessments, I think he literally phoned evreyone he knew on the journey back to work afterwards :001_rolleyes:

Good thread! I to have recentley passed my apprentership in the last few weeks ( think I passed my cs38 and 39 assesment 2 fridays back). It certainly is the way forward in my opinion.

Ive done mine with a local firm. I havent had as many oppertunites to climb as it looks like your apprentice has ( time/monney on jobs etc) but Ive done alot of forestry work and now looks like im heading more into arb.

Ive been offerd a job with the same firm and things are looking good im starting to do more climbing now I have tickets and im feeling and showing more confidence in the tree and am starting to make someone monney.

I wish Tom good luck. I have some photos of me somewhere ill try and fish em out.

Not at all, feel free.

Mark (the assessor) & I were talking during the assessments that it may be a better way to imply compitence, by being signed off by a mentor after maybe a minimum of 500 hours or so after gaining the Cs tickets.

Using shots as evidence etc......

.

one point about that, i have to (as part of this current uni module) have to create my own work skills portfolio website

as part of this i have to document 180hrs+ of arb work in pictures.

its taken me 3 solid days to upload most (not all) to the website

so if shots are used as evidence then all i can say is don't put em on a website:lol:
