Unimogs rock thread

The bit that niggles me, from what I can see of it anyway, is that to come off of ag use you need an O licence. A vehicle requiring an O licence can't be stored at home? So my little U900 couldn't be kept on my drive at the side of the house where it bothers nobody, but next door's chuffing great camper van that blocks the whole view from my living room window can be parked on theirs?!

Well they can do one. Not happening.

You can keep it at home providing its a registered operators centre, the bit they get you on is you must be able to drive straight in turn around and drive straight out :thumbup1:. This came straight from the horses mouth and is what i am going through at the moment.

I was told that a commercial vehicle over 3500kg with an operators licence can NOT be kept at a residential address in England PERIOD

You can park it off road at home but, the operators centre has to be advertised in local papers for a period of time with no objections "even if people object does not mean they can stop the operators centre going through" you must have clear lines of site whilst pulling out, enough room to drive in turn around and drive out, im not saying they will allow you to park an 8 legger on a drive designed for 2 cars, but say a 5.5t iveco "similiar size to a transit" then yes. this comes from OLMC in wakefield they applied for my operators licence and operators centre at our yard, there is no guarantee vosa will grant you permission to park at home, and it will cost you either way but unless u ask you will never know.

Well it is a Unimog, and I do have garden all the way around the house. If they wanted to be silly about it I could use the house as a roundabout!:laugh1:

Seriously though. I can drive in forwards, reverse into where it's parked and drive out again forwards without needing to use the road. If all they're worried about is the danger of reversing on to or off of the road, then I'm ok. And it's not a big vehicle. My Ford Ranger pickup is longer by quite a margin!

Where can I find the details of the O licence? I've got it registered and insured as a classic tractor at the moment, but that's only going to be legal until it's restored and being used for work. Then I'll need to sort it properly even though I'll only use it a couple of times per month. Does distance travelled count for anything? It rarely goes more than five miles from home!
