The Computer is Dead, Long Live my next Computer! Help!

My Dell Latitude has kicked the bucket. NVIDIA thingy can't match driver download to hardware and I loose the screen all the time; machine is old so guess I need a new one. I know sweet f-a about PCs! :blushing:

Would rather have a desktop now as it seems you get a lot more bang for your buck? Only trouble is that a desktop will have to go upstairs and thus have a wireless connection whereas a laptop can go in the dining room where the router is and have an ethernet which I assume is faster than wireless?

Looking at a Dell Vostro; dunno my Pentium vs Core 2 or even Quadcore but do know I want minimum 4gb RAM and a 21" monitor.

Beyond that I'm clueless and wonder if there are any no-nos I shoud know of?

Want MS Word, Excel, PP etc, not too worried about HD space, assume Windows 7 ???????

Thanks so much.

Get some outfit to build you one. You tell them what you need it for and what you use it most for and they can build one around your needs. None of that advertising bumf that comes with a shop bought and no paying for stuff you'll never need. I ditched all the stuff like games cards etc and just got more memory and a better sound system. Plus, if anything goes wrong I get a more personal service and the guys know what they are dealing with.

You can buy very good machines from Asus. You will probably never have heard of asus, but they make 99.9% of all motherboards fitted to computers (macs included) today.

I have an ASUS laptop. It's fantastic. Two years old now i think i think it came with 3 years of warrenty.
