U need to keep your eye on the software available.....If you dont use any from the choice that arbs have at their disposal..eg Pear Tecnology etc etc WHU...then dont worry.

There's plenty out there in the way of Opensource development that allows you use FREE software which will work fine with the majority of the popular applications ( Office/ MSWord/spreeadsheets for example )

There is no substitute for the Tree related software as far as I know.however.. You'll end up needing a windows system for that. Apple are not popular enough I guess, despite their recent surge in sales....Dont have a pc ( Macbook Pro ) Very happy with it.

A couple of my mates have an Apple PC/Notebook and it is so much more user friendly than Microsoft. I would seriously look at the iMAC. I know it is pricey but the machine is a dream. No wires at all and the hard-drive is behind the screen saving you a heap of space. When my Dell goes belly-up I am converting to Apple - oh while I am on the subject of converting, Apple do a Microsoft conversion pack so it makes the machine talk to other microsoft machines without a hitch. Hey I should be a sales person......

Been running apple for about 6 years now ever since I was working in the recording and live sound field. My PowerBook g4 is still going strong. If you want a desktop, go with the iMac over the Mac pro unless you really need the extra, and upgrade it as much as you can afford to from the outset. Not that it can't be done later, it's just a lot easier. With the intel mac's you simply run bootcamp and have a windows dual boot on the machine for any windows only software you absolutely need to run. Mac are good like that

I would go for the imac

Upgrade the Processor 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

dont bother with the ram u can do it yourself if u really want for much less

upgrade the memory 1TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive

Magic Mouse

Apple Wireless Keyboard (English)

Apple Remote unless u have a iphone

It will last years and u will be able to sell it in four to five for a good sum.

Just remember it wont stop there

And don't bother with the apple care as the never go wrong if u get it from John lewis it comes with a five year care

Hope this helps
